PEOPLE'S POTTERY PROJECT

Look what arrived! We are so thrilled to receive our People's Pottery Project ceramic bowl. It’s just absolutely gorgeous! You can buy one and support their mission!!!

People’s Pottery Project (PPP) is an artist-driven initiative whose mission is to empower formerly incarcerated women, trans, and nonbinary individuals and their communities through the arts. We are a community of makers. Since June 2019, People’s Pottery Project has offered weekly classes that are free for people who are formerly incarcerated, and low-cost for the community at large. PPP is organized as a collectively-owned ceramics business that trains, hires, and brings into leadership positions formerly incarcerated people, compensating them at a living wage. In addition to developing and producing collaboratively-designed ceramic products, People’s Pottery Project trains members in all aspects of running the organization. These skills will serve our members in any future professional pursuit, while helping us to effectively communicate our experiences and improve our capacity to organize.

As artists, we believe that access to the arts is empowering not only creatively, but also politically, socially, and economically. Our not-for-profit ceramics business trains and hires formerly incarcerated individuals at every level of the business, developing and selling our own collectively-designed ceramics products. We also provide ceramics classes and creative space to learn skills, spend time in community, and make objects of one’s own design.
